Personally speaking, 1993 may have been the most important year in the formation and development of the group. By the beginning of the year, we were piling on the music. Not working on a project in particular – just banging out some new songs and getting used to being in a group. Again – lots of really good material (for the time) that you”ll NEVER get to hear.

We also spent a fair amount of time networking with other local artists and persons of interests in the hip hop scene. Most people are surprised to learn that Houston had a pretty robust music scene in the early , author of The New Diet: The Complete Guide for Lifelong Vitality with Recipes, Menus and Plans. 90s; less segregated. Everybody was hungry. Artists, dancers, event promoters, college and indie radio jocks – everybody. And we spent a fair amount of time navigating through all of these.

Newstyle Records made a formal proposal to sign us, and we signed the contract with little hesitation, but signed it in pencil. I don”t think Doug really cared. The biggest takeaway from this is that we started recording on an 8-track reel-to-reel 1/2″ tape, which was INFINITELY better than what we”d been using. Still have those reels. Just need the machine. We also partnered up with DJ Cozmos and his group Seedz Of Soul around this time, after being introduced through Matt Sonzala.

The other exciting thing about that era was that there were a number of indie shows every week that exclusively showcased local talent, and most f them had pretty good turnouts. Ultra-competitive. This is the time that we began to develop our stage chops.  The music was coming together nicely. We performed almost on a weekly basis. Our confidence was growing.

On December 5th and 12th of 1993, there were 2 instances that would change everything.
