Sherm the INTERN brings treats from the future…
Whatup Rappers I Know/Okayplayer. This is my first post on here so I’m gonna give a little background of who I am and why I’m here–as well as include some goodies/exclusives. My name is Jared (Or Sherm)-I am a junior in college and a future music mogul/exec/ guy-that-is-in-a-position-to-put-dope-artists-on—–but for now–i’ll be “the intern”. I had interned for FWMJ over the summer at his day job (well, also for Rappers I Know–I had to package and send Nicolay skateboards…that story is for another day). I had interned for FWMJ not JUST because it was at hot 97 (although the contacts and the experience there was great)—but I wanted to work in that environment with someone like FWMJ–his musical tastes, background, experience, network, etc. Needless to say I got a good friend and mentor out of my time spent there–as well as a great experience. (Sidenote: I originally hit FWMJ on the Okayplayer Boards-username Sherm09).
While I was working there (and way before) — I was building Four Hour Future– a company I co-own that is the umbrella for artists and producers I fuck with. I started the company with (former) rawkus50 member Scanz (in philly now) as a means to promote, release, and manage his music and career, as well as the artists and members of the team that we have developed.. Scanz dropped the Rawkus album when he was 19—and co-produced the album with one of our producers–FrankG. The album was a top ten seller out of the 50, and the momentum and success led us to form the company. In the transitional period we put work in creating a blog, website, building with other artists, and forming the official corporation. We were in the position to sign a deal with dudes in suits that wanted to give us money that we didn’t take, and instead decided to do all this shit ourselves, with no budget –under our full creative control and ownership. This is Four hOUR future. Scanz has produced an album for Channel Live, performed shows with Krs-one, Redman, Talib Kweli, Immortal Technique, and many others. We helped shoot videos for Columbia Records artist Selina Carrera, as well as Chaundon and Big Pooh of the Justus League–with our affiliate, director Matt Koza of Budd Lake Productions. We’ve been learning the game for years, since we were kids, and now we’re putting the music out ourselves.
We had built up a team (mostly students in college), who are motivated to spread the message and the music. We are artists, producers, graphic designers, videographers, photographers, clothing designers, etc. etc. I like to think that the music and presentation will communicate what we’re about, and speak for itself. The Newest project (followup to the Rawkus 50 album) is Scanz Presents: The Basement Chronicle- a collection of tracks featuring our team (Scanz, Wesley Simpson, Yasin, FrankG)–as well as the help of artists like Krs-One, Channel Live, Mr.Lif, Reef The Lost Cauze, Chaundon, and more. Scanz and FrankG handle all of the production.
FWMJ has given me the opportunity to use Rappers I Know as an outlet for me to post updates (videos, music, photos, etc.) of our movement. I’m looking forward to posting the shit up and sharing the hard work we’ve put in.
I’m posting up four tracks that will be on the album (ALL rough mixes)…And a dilla tribute Scanz did over one of the Donuts. I also included a video blog of Scanz talking about what he’s working on at the moment, and he drops a Rappers I Know exclusive.
